One of the biggest problems a new hamster owner faces is their biting. In the past we have had several hamster that would bite and could never be trusted, however we were very lucky that Cuddles found her way to us. She had never bitten us, not even once. She was one of a kind and I don't think no matter how hard we looked we would ever find a hammie as sweet as she was. She came pretty much the same way that a lot of our furry or feathered family members came, having been purchased and then gotten rid of by someone else, and in the summertime of 2002 she would have been with us for 2 years.
In Loving Memory
During her short time with us we had a lot of problems with ants invading our home, and at one point they even invaded her cage. As a result of their invasion Cuddles ended up with a bald butt, which never fully grew back. We used to joke that this summer at least she wouldn't have need of an air conditioner, but that just masked the fact of how bad we truely felt. We never knew Cuddles true age, so with the amount of time that we were fortunate enough to share our lives with her we can only assume that she died at a ripe old age on February 27, 2002. Cuddles, we miss you terribly, and we pray that one day we will be reunited with you at the bridge.
Many years ago, what feels like a lifetime ago, I had a couple of gerbils that had a litter of several babies. My favorites were the black ones, and since I wasn't able to keep the babies I have often said one day I will get another. Well on Februrary 24, 2002, at the same flea market pet shop and on the same day we got Star, Snickers our black beauty joined the clan. He is still a baby and not yet of full size, and more than a handful for anyone. He is constantly on the go, and I swear more hyper than Scooby. This cute little guy is still skiddish about human contact though, and rarely comes out of his house when we're around unless coaxed with a favorite veggie.
Let Me Out
On the particular day that this picture was taken I could have sworn Snickers snuck into the candy dish, cause he was rearing to go and kept trying to dig his way out. He eventually wound up in his car on the race track so he could release some of that pent up energy. It is quite funny to watch him turn laps and scare the pup half to death to the point where he had to seek refuge behind moms legs.
Lassie Or Is She Kit Kat
Lassie joined our family only hours before Cuddles went on to the bridge, so the 27th of February will always be a sad and happy day for us. She first started out with the name Lassie since my daughters thought she looked like a collie, but a few days later ended up calling her Kit Kat. To me no matter which name she has she will always be Snuggle Bug. She is a total sweetheart, and loves to sit in your lap while getting scritchies. One of her favorite places for a good rub down is just inside the ears, which sends her off into lala land.
Two days aftering bringing Scooby home we went on a shopping spree at our local pet store to get him some toys and treats, and to our suprise we saw that they made toys for piggies. Toys for piggies, huh, now that was something new to us. My daughter managed to find the only stuffed squeaky toy in the whole place for piggies, and we just had to get it for her. Ok just when I thought I had seen it all, Snuggle Bug really showed us something new. That night when we gave her the squeaky toy she started playing catch with it. Imagine a piggy throwing a toy up in the air over and over again. I swear one day I'm going to sign her up for a baseball team, and maybe she will show them a thing or two.
